Why is no one buying from my Shopify store? 10 fixes

Short answer

Most Shopify stores with traffic but no sales have the same few problems: a homepage that doesn’t show what you sell and what it costs, product pages that don’t answer buyers’ questions, no visible proof, surprise shipping costs at checkout, and a store that works worse on phones than on desktop. You can fix most of them inside your theme.

Key takeaways

  • Show your products and prices on the first screen, not a slider with a slogan.
  • Make product pages answer the questions a buyer would ask in a shop.
  • Show shipping costs early: surprise costs are the top fixable reason people abandon.
  • Check everything on your own phone, because that’s how most shoppers see your store.

1 to 3: the homepage doesn’t sell

  1. A slider instead of products. Many Shopify themes open with a big image slider. Visitors don’t wait for slides. Show your best products with prices and an Add to cart button on the first screen.
  2. No clear promise. “Welcome to our store” says nothing. Say what you sell and why it’s better in one line, like a candle brand that leads with how strong the scent is.
  3. Too many choices with no guidance. If you sell many products, help people choose: bestsellers, a quiz, or a simple picker like “mild to extra hot”.
BeforeBefore: a candle homepage with claims over a photo slider
AfterAfter: a candle homepage that leads with one promise and bestsellers with prices

4 to 6: product pages don’t answer questions

  1. Thin product descriptions. Answer what a shop assistant would: what it is, who it’s for, size, materials, how it’s used, how it compares.
  2. Weak photos. Show the product in use, at real size, and from every angle buyers care about.
  3. No reviews near the button. Put your rating and a few real reviews next to Add to cart, where people decide.

7 to 8: checkout surprises

  1. Shipping costs appear too late. In Baymard’s 2026 survey, 40% of US shoppers had abandoned because extra costs were too high. Show shipping and the free-shipping threshold on product and cart pages.
  2. Delivery time is unclear. 20% abandoned because delivery was too slow. Say when the order will arrive, early.

9 to 10: trust and mobile

  1. The store doesn’t look trustworthy. 19% abandoned because they didn’t trust the site with their card. A real About page, contact details, a clear return policy and clean design all help.
  2. It works worse on phones. Check your store on your own phone: tap targets, sticky Add to cart, image loading, pop-ups covering the page.

What to do next

Pick the step where most visitors leave in your Shopify analytics, fix that first, and compare sales per visitor before and after. If you get enough orders, test the change as an A/B test so you know it was the fix, not the season.

FAQ

Why is my Shopify store getting visitors but no sales?

Usually the homepage doesn’t show products and prices, product pages don’t answer buyers’ questions, there is no proof near the button, or shipping costs appear too late at checkout.

Do I need a new Shopify theme to get more sales?

Usually not. Most of the fixes are content and layout inside your current theme: the first screen, product page content, reviews, shipping information and mobile details.

How long does it take to see more sales?

Simple fixes like showing shipping costs early can show results within weeks. Bigger redesigns should be tested for two to four weeks to get a reliable answer.
